If you need to boil water, start with water from
the hot water tap...part of the heating job is
already done.
that's so not healthy.... especially if its for cooking.

If you pipes have lead in them do not use hot water for cooking. Also using hot water doesn't really help it boil quicker.

haha ok, one of 99 things isn't so great. Still a good article IMO.

Found it while looking at my gas bill of 190 fucking dollars this month.

Well if you are saying you need to keep your window open in the winter then thats more likely the cause of your gas bill.

Furnace, water heater, and stove.

The window in my room isn't causing the high bills. It's the windows downstairs that are broken which I can't afford to fix that are causing the temps to fall on the main floor which in turn kicks my furnace on a lot.

Keeping one window cracked in my upstairs bedroom with my door to the hall closed has absolutely NO bearing on my heating bill, mostly because the tstat isn't in here, and 99% of the time my heat vent is closed anyway because all the heat rises from the main floor keeping my room hot all the time.

So I can assure you it's not my purposely left open window causing a high gas bill.

Heat rises but the wind hits the downstairs and blows in through the windows down there where the tstat is. If I could insulate between the main floor and second floor, I would. But that'll only put a dent in the problem. Once my taxes get back, I'm getting the 2 bad windows in the family room fixed.
