Default Plans for entertainment center

I did a search online but didn't find too much I was looking for. I bought a new 40" Sony Bravia that barely fits onto my stand, and the stand lacks enough space for all of my components. This is what I came up with for the first round of plans. It will be 4'l x 2'w x 2' 1.5" h. I know lazy mans dimensions with using finished plywood. I don't have a work shop so its a btich to make a lot of cuts on my balcony of my condo.

I attached a my basic plans for this. I want to make the shelves adjustable in height. How would you do this. I was thinking of using pegs to hold the shelves up like assembled furniture uses. What else can I do for this? The shelves themselves I wanted to use 1/2" finished plywood will this be enough for a 19" length and holding upto 30 pounds?

I would prefer on the top if the screws to the sides and middle pieces don't show. Instead of using screws on the top is there a way to make it secure? I can always use screws and buy plugs for it, sand and finish.

Will this be able to support my 70 pound tv without sagging over time? I am thinking since the 2 shelve supports are close together in the middle and thats where the stand on the tv will be that this be fine.

my parents have a similar design. my old man made it back in the mid 70's and it still stands today.

he used 1x2's (i think) for the frame/shell, and used real planks of wood for the shelves and top... not plywood. it's heavy as shit.

You wouldn't need to utilize screws for the box depending on the jointery. If you make a rabbit on the two side pieces, you can use wood glue and 18ga brad's to hold the unit together. This is of course if you are planning to utilize a backer. If no backer than I suggest screws. Also, it'd be a good idea if your two middle supports were 3/4" ply as well with rabbits in the top and bottom box pieces for stability.

1/2" is okay, but 3/4" would be generally better. Are you facing the shelving/box with hardwood or veneer? If facing with hardwood then be sure to utilize 3/4 for nailing and gluing purposes.

Home Deepthroad sells pegs for adjusting the shelves. Make a template so all of your holes match on opposing sides. I believe they sell templates at the store itself as well.

If you need a tablesaw - mines available. I'm getting a new one so you can have it if you want.

Damn, I just bought a table saw 2 months ago. Thanks anyways.

I will probably use veneer. I would love not to use plywood and use real wood, but for the condo this is good enough. I just don't want to build this with hardwood and then have it not fit into a house when I buy one.

Plywood for the boxes is just fine. 90% of High End Cabinetry is made with veneered plywood with hardwood face materials.
