Default Rigid tools

I just bought a Rigid random orbital sander a few days ago. I started using it the other day for about 5 minutes and the thing shit out. The switch went funny and the motor was smoking a little. I had the vents open while sanding. I am wondering if anyone else has had probelms with Rigid tools, or if I just got a defect. I had picked this over the Dewalt since the cord was longer and it had the life time warranty including free brakes for it. The only other Rigid product I have owned is there shop vacs. I love that vac. For 35 bucks at the time its the best damn shop vac I have owned or used. So I thought the sander would be good.
I am helping to redo my gf's room at her father's cottage. The walls are tongue and groove paneling, its some sort of pine but its a dense pine. The walls were most likely shellacked but it was decades ago since anything has been put on. THe walls are taking forever to sand, but mostly its due to the paneling not being 100% flat. Not that the walls are crooked but the slats are about 1.1/4 inches wide. I am also redoing the floor which we will never get perfect. Its a southern or yellow pine that has also not been refinished in decades and being a beach cottage it has some deep pits in it. Being that we do not want to destroy any of the wood in there. The cottage was built in between 1925 and 1928. It was all ahnd built no power tools. The construction and craftsmanship is fucking amazing. I will have to start a thread about the place sometime when I get pics.
