Rep Power: 10 ![]() | Well, i bought it. went back on saturday. I bought the upgraded trim pieces in nickel finish and the better glass piece that doesn't 'fog' up and has some self-cleaning stuff on it, as well as the decorative log set so i'm a little over my orig 3600 installed estimate. But, it will look better ![]() $3678 for all the stuff. install is estimated at $699, but i don't pay that until they come. might be cheaper by a few. so, 42-4300 bucks installed with the extras. I have to wait about a week for them to call and set up an install date, and then i go and get the building permit to make it 100% legal (i have their insurance paper work and all that) and then about a month out, they will come and install it. i'm going down with my buddy nate and his big diesel pick up and getting 2 tons (its cheaper to pick up) sometime this week. They are supposed to go up about $20 in august. as for the price of pellets going up.... honestly, what ISN'T more expensive this year than it was last year? at the end of the day, it's still a huge savings. i'll probably use about $1000 in oil this season instead of $6000. My water is on it (boiler) and i'll probably keep it on 55 to make sure nothing freezes in a remote corner of the house or something. Add $600 for the 2 tons, and i'm paying 70% less for heating costs that i would with just oil. after 2 years, i break even, 3 years, i'm ahead... and if oil only gets more expensive, i only get ahead sooner. Plus, the stove will add a little bit of resale value to the house. 10 years from now, oil heated homes are going to be hard sells i'm going to fathom a guess.

Rep Power: 10 ![]() | woohoo i have t3h stove.pain in the ass to get it started. takes like 20 min and 2 or 3 ignite cycles. hopefully that will improve as it 'breaks in' and there's ash around, etc. setting 2 out of 4 is too hot. lol my living room is like 80* right now. WAY too hot. loving it though so far. i need to do something with the power cord. gotta tuckt it in somewhere. looks ugly. and no, i still don't have furniture in this room yet lol

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | it looks tiny in your fireplace. Did the installers recommend any options for the plug?

Rep Power: 10 ![]() | It's actually one of the biggest stoves they make. (good for ~2000 sq ft.) Wood stoves are bigger than pellet stoves. That's probably what you're comparing it to. No options for the plug from the installers. Didn't ask. I'll probably just tuck it in between the carpet and the wall and then put an end table or something to cover up the rest of it when i eventually get some furniture in there. I'm thinking about hitting up ikea and just going cheap for now. Real sofas/etc are just more than i want to spend on a room i never use. I'm thinking 2 of these in sivik dark grey IKEA | Fabric sofas & armchairs | Sofas | KARLSTAD | Sofa one facing the fire place , and one against the windows facing the kitchen. this coffee table for the center in the black/brown IKEA | Coffee & side tables | Coffee tables | RAMVIK | Coffee table and 2 or 3 of the matching sides in the same black/brown IKEA | Coffee & side tables | Side tables | RAMVIK | Side table with drawer figure, 1 on each side of the fire place to balance the look and hide the power cord, and 1 between for the couch against the windows, towards the front door/foyer. Comes to $1450 ish for all pieces. I can't even touch a sofa at that price point at Pilgrim, etc....

Rep Power: 10 ![]() | yeah... winter. snow. it's awesome. you should try it some time ![]() Quote:
I think what suprised me most after a few hours was that the living room was colder than the top of the stairs. Granted, heat rises... but it also has to travel 15-20 feet to get there. I'm excited to not spend stupid money on oil this winter. I'm in for 270 bucks on a ton of pellets... and, i'm pretty sure that's going to last me all winter. The 3.5 hours i ran it last night, i used maybe 1/20th of the bag i poured in. The installer also mentioned something to me that i have to try. Since i have central air and an attic fan right at the top of my stairs, he suggested to run the fan every now and then for a couple min to circulate the hot air. I didn't even think of that. It will suck up the hot air, and send it around to all the remote places like my bathroom around 3 corners via the CA vents. That was my main concern with it... that it wouldn't get to my bathroom. from the fireplace to get to my bathroom, the heat would have to travel: 15-20 feet to the top of the stairs (attic fan here), bang a left into my room, bang a left into my master bath hallway, and bang another left into my actual bathroom, and then travel in the 6-8 feet to keep me warm when i'm on the can ![]() or, i can just turn the fan on and get it there nice and easy word.
