Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Basic dimensions: length = 16" x width = 23" x height = 36" to top shelf, 48" to top. I want it to have a few shelves, etc. What do you guys build your items out of? (jeef?) I'm drawing up a sketch of it and I want to build it, coat it, etc. Do you suggest using nails or screws?

| jeef | Are you planning on painting this or stain and poly? For the top and shelves I would use a finished plywood with an iron veneer to cover the sides. Unless you have a jointer and a plainer then you can glue up strips of wood to make the surface but most likely you dont so plywood would be a good option. You can also buy wide lengths of pine boards at home depot that could be used instead of the finished plywood. This a good option but I am not a fan of pine due to the fact that its easilu dented. BUt it is cheaper and easy to work with. For the legs I would use a matching species of wood. For the legs you could go with premade legs or make your own. You could make your own by glueing up a couple of boards to the thickness you want, and shape them how you want. In most cases I would say screws and wood glue if you are able to hide the screw heads. You could attach the top to the frame from the bottom and as long as you have the right lenght screw that won't pop through but will have enough wood to grab to you should be fine. When you get the sketch up we could give you some more direction. |

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Here's a rough paint sketch. I want it to have a single open leg and two back boards on the opposite sides so I can access the shelves both from my bed and beside my bed. Each Shelf only needs to be 12" tall with a 1/4 of the top being an open shelf to stuff things inside. Its kind of a shitty sketch.

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | The legs aren't going to be that thin, persay, and I'd like the shelves to be solid. I was thinking about notching the legs as well as screwing them in.

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Thats not tall enough. My bed is 2.5' tall. I could go buy whatever, but the entire point is that I want to BUILD it myself. and glass top = fuck no. I'd drop something on it and bust it within 2 days.
