Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Alright, they've done something different to the tap water. Our rice now smells after sitting in the cooker for a couple of hours(before you could leave it in there for about 1-2 days and it would be perfectly fine), using filtered water fixes this issue; and also I started getting ridiculously dry skin on my eyelids(very annoying, first it caused pink eye in my left eye but the dryness never went away) and just dryer skin than usual. Now, I don't keep up with filters a lot(I forget to change HVAC and pitcher water filter often); but which is a better route to go: individual shower head(we have two)+kitchen faucet filters, or a simple whole house filter? Also, which is the best brand to go with? |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | A water softner is probably your best bet. GE Sartwater makes a good one that's not too expensive and they're fairly easy to install. Another route, much much cheaper, is installing an in-line filter. This type filters out the major particles in the water. It's only about $50 and the upgraded filter cartridges are about $20. They last about 6 months. I actually installed one in front of my water softner. They work pretty well. Just make sure you change it on time. If you wait too long, the cartridge will fall apart and clog all your faucets. You'll have to take them all apart to clean them. Trust me, personal experience, lol. Hope this helps. |

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | Are you looking to FILTER your water, or SOFTEN it? If you want to FILTER it, I did mine for about $30. Its a cartridge that I replace about every 4-6 weeks... It gets pretty nasty pretty quick... If you want SOFTER water, you can do it for a couple hundred bucks, just be prepared to remember to grab salt from Home Depot everytime you go... I got rid of my salt system because it didn't really do too much for me... I had clay for water... not really HARD water.. |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | I put in a water softener a couple months ago, it helped the water quality a lot, but for drinking purposes, it didn't do much for taste. If you want to improve the water for your rice, I'd go for a whole house reverse osmosis system. I want to get one, but haven't hide time or money yet. |
