Default Tile + Ditra

Getting ready to tile my kitchen and have been reading a lot about Ditra from Schluter. To be perfectly honest, I haven't worked with tile before so this will be the first official tile project I've done.

I added a second layer of subfloor to the entire house to make the floors feel more substantial and to get rid of a good deal of movement from the original. Some sections of the original were replaced due to warping and rot in sections of the kitchen.

I'm interested in using the Ditra because I don't want to have to add another layer of backer board to the floor. I also really like the selling points regarding it's flexibility and how it separates the tile from the potential movement of the substrate beneath it.

Going to check out some prices. There are some dealers on ebay and it's going for under 2 bucks a sq. ft.

Who want's to come help?? lol

So far so good. The stuff cuts & lays out nicely. Gonna take a few shots later and will be starting the mortaring and all the other fun stuff shortly. Couple of plumbing things to take care of before permanently putting everything down.

Goes down nicely and is easy to work with afterwards. I can make a little write-up if there's interest.

Will be grouting soon and then finally getting the cabinets out of the living room.

Angles came out very well. Planned out for minimal cuts and full tiles at each entry point, with the exception of the ones by the ext. door.

I used an MK wet cutting tile saw. I believe it was the stock diamond blade. I borrowed it from my uncle who helped with the tile laying portion.

Here's a better shot of the main angle.

And thanks for the compliments.

What do you have planned for the rest of the floor? What type of transition are you going to use?

We should begin a seller forum. Anyone want 300 1/8 inch tile spacers??

The hallway/living room/dining room that will all join to the kitchen is a wood laminate made by TrafficMaster, which I have in the bedrooms. I used it as a test flooring and it looks great, feels good, and holds up well. I'm going to continue it through the house and see how it holds up.

Removed the spacers, walked around and everything is solid.

Shot from where I left off in the hallway. Will be putting 2 inch wood transitions from the tile to laminate.
