Default Known scams.

Kind of a half story/half how-to possibility here.

I got a letter the other day from some agency about how I had the deed to the house transferred to my name in March. It was basically stating that it is always a smart idea for home owners to have a copy of this deed in their posession.

I thought, good idea, right?

Well, I kept reading to the part where they were asking for a certified check for 69.98 and they will send a copy of the deed to your property to you.

I thought well, it sounds like a good idea, but at the same time... 70 bucks? Today I asked my dad about and he says it's a scam that had been in the paper for a while now, and that you can go down to the courthouse and obtain a copy of your deed in your name for 3-5 dollars. I'd already thrown that paper away this weekend when I was cleaning up my living room so alls well that ends well.

I figure we could make a sticky of known scams towards house hunting, home buying and home ownership for all of us to check over and share with the site.

as long as you have your title insurance form, you're good. that form insures you for the value of you home that the title is legit and in your name.

if you don't have this, call the lawyer who did your closing.
