Default wooo hooo got oil :D

ok, well, nothing to get too excited about, but i got a pretty good deal on my oil contract today.

$75 /year (for 18 months, new cust promo), later $189 a year for full service. includes labor, parts, etc... its their top of the line service plan. basically if it breaks, i don't have to pay for anything (other than the actual furnace, etc) including labor, and 24/7 service included.

oil capped in at $2.44 a gallon for 1 yr

oil guy said i'd probably use about 1000 gallons a year (furnace runs the hot water too)

in other news, i got my first power bill today for the new place... it was 40 bucks cheaper than the condo.... and 2 people live here now, and its colder than it was last month. so, i guess the ol' electric hot water heater sucks.

but, at the same time, we've dropped the oil tank from just under a 1/2 to just over 1/3 in the month we've been here... and i've only run the heat once

so, its probably more money... but it shoudl be, as there's 2 people showering here and stuff now. plus the g/f stays over a lot h34r:

FYI... Be VERY CAREFUL with oil caps... I know people that have had "caps"... And then all of a sudden, they get a bill for a higher price... They call, and get "well, its only a cap unless market value changes beyond a certain percent, then we change the price at our discretion".

And one thing I did this summer was drop my tstat on my furnace when I wasnt using the heat... I made it 120/145 instead of 180/200... Saved ALOT... I dont need to take 190 degree showers in the summer...

Check your on/off... Some people with big houses tend to keep their tstats higher than they should be too...

And does the plan also include maintenance on the furnace? Fuel Filter? Chamber Cleaning? Nozzle/electrode replacement?

yeah, i'm good to go down. i just can't go higher than 2.44 for the first year. if the market drops lower than that, my price will too.

i'm not even sure what it's on.. i should probably look. I've NEVER run out of hot water though (and i have 0 reserve due to it being a boiler style furnace) even with E in the shower and the dishwasher on, and me in the other shower. still plenty hot till i got out.

on/off on what? i have 3 zones (1 per floor) and they are all off and have been since i moved in except for that one time when i let it run once (to take the chill out of the house).

yes. everything except the actual unit itself. all parts, cleaning, and so forth is included.

The furnace itself has an on/off thermostat. It constantly keeps the water at a preset temp, regardless if the zone opens or closes...

And They CAN bump your "locked in price" if the market skyrockets. Unless you PREPAY... If you PREPAY, you basically are paying for your oil right then and there... But if its just a contract... They can do whatever they want. Read the fine print...

What brand furnace is it?

And I dont want to know why you and E were showering together....

you're luck on that price cap. I just got oil tuesday $2.999 a gallon my ass still hurts. Luckly I'm only in the house on the weekends to fixer up, so the t-stat is set to 57 during the week.
