Default To keep it or not.

I'm not too fond of my downstairs "1/2 bath" It's so freaking small that when I bend over to lift up the seat of the toilet I tag the door with my butt.

I think it used to be a pantry of some sort way back in the day, but they plumbed in a second toilet and sink for it.

I was thinking that the space might be more useful as a sort of pantry area instead.

What would your opinion be?

I'll have to get some pictures of it, I thought I had some to show you.

snap some pics.... It cant be as small as my sister's 1/2 bath though.. I call it a water closet, not a bathroom... it is so small, I wont even use it... You walk in, and you are standing over top the toilet... It is so tight you can barely get the door closed, then you have to bend over to hit the bowl lol...

And dont even think about droppin a deus in there... lol. The bathroom is probably... 3'x4' No lie...

Leading from the back door straight to it.

The Tiny little toilet.

How small it is with the door closed;

I'm leaning against the door with my back and touching the opposite wall.

I imagine some storage space would be much more useful.

how many other baths do you have? is there another one on this level?

if there's no downstairs bath when you go to sell, you're going to take a huge hit on it, regardless of the size of it.

I don't plan on selling the house. Thats why I'm considering just removing it. When I refinance/home equity loan I want to see if I can get enough to finish the kitchen and possibly add a master bathroom.

planning is one thing... you never know what's down the road for you dude. in 10 years your old man might retire and leave you the business, giving you a much higher paycheck (i would assume) and easily afford a newer/bigger/better/whatever house.

having only an upstairs bathroom sucks for entertaining/having friends over, and even if it is just a corner in the cubby, its still better than nothing IMO.

would it be possible to expand the bathroom instead of going the other way around?

Nope. It's at the stairs leading to the back door/basement, with the kitchen right there. I'm 99% sure when this house was originally built it was nothing more than a pantry closet. To the north is the living room, to the west is the dining room, there's no room to make it bigger and I honestly don't mind my friends using the upstairs bathroom anyway. You have to sit at an angle to take shit in it. It's not comfortable.

I'm not wanting my dads business. He'll work the job until he keels over, then it's up to my brother to run it because I want to get into college for something else.

So the general consensus is just to leave it be? It's eventually getting redone, the toilet needs a new wax ring and the carpet is getting pulled anyway.

I'd leave it... Any way you can move that wall that is right up next to the toilet? I see it is stepped...
