Default Part one...The roof.

Day one....finally.

Got a delivery today for the materials that a contractor I'm going with for my roof today....

and I approve of the materials...they start tomorrow.

I hope.

where the dumpster will be sat...they even layed out boards for it...cool.

The project thats costing me about $6600....

and the roofing me and some friends did...and after hanging on that shallow pitch...and climbing up on my roof twice to do something...I gave in and decided to have it professionally done this time.

6600 isn't a bad price at all for parts and labor IMO. 2k of it is material, 500 is dumpster roughly anyway...

if you need a contractor for anything else, let me know.. a buddy in east hartford is VERY good and very reasonable...

How many square is that roof? That looks like ALOT of shingles... And for $6600 I assume they are doing a complete tearoff and redo? Any bad plywood anywhere?

by the count of bundles looks around 21-22 square ?

also by the count of 30lb felt and ice shield you have about 21-22 square. Each roll is 2square.

Looks like a fun Roof to shingle.

Well, they showed up this morning finally. Not a single one of them speaks english... I kind a figued on that. Anyways, they started ripping the roof...and under the old crappy tar shingles, they found wood shingles...and under the wood...just the normal 1x6 spaced about 2 inches apart...so I got a call from the contractor..

the roof will need new sheathing....ohh well...lets just tack on another $4,500....

the peice of mind that the job is getting done right...and bitting into my funds a little dont really bother me. He said he can cut a little cost by not stripping the old shingles off the walls that is now the siding...and it would add a little more insulation properties. Ohh well.

I'll snap some pics when the camera gets charged.

Wow.... I didnt realize your roof was that bad... ROFL...

I just did a roof this weekend on a 5 pitch... I can only imagine how much its going to SUCK to lug all those shingles up there...

And while they are ripping all the wood shingling and everything off, are they going to put down plywood? It would be VERY wise if they do... Plus will help EXTREMELY with your insulating...

EDIT: NEvermind... just saw your other post... lol.

Double Edit: Are those 2' on center truss's? Looks like it from what I see in the shadows... Looks REALLY wide apart... Are they doing 5/8" wood? or skimpin out with 1/2" (If they overlay those 1x6's they can get away with 1/2")...

Damn, little markup on the sheething! [/sarcasm]

Noah; they won't lug the bundles up by hand. There's an elevator that shoots them up a ladder and the employee will catch the bundle on the roof.

Edit; maybe you should have shopped or negotiated a little more, 11k for that roof seems a bit steep even with new sheething.

yup, they just finished...I'll go outside and take some pics.

and they took each bundle up by hand...

and for the extra money...I'm going to go and talk to the contractor....and see if he remembers the nice CT contractors laws for estimates and work done...they are only allowed to go over the jobs price by 10% of the estimate...and I'll mention that I just had a recent run around with another contractor and the state attorney.
