Default Hillside

My house is up on a hill so we have small front yard about 15feet long then it just becomes a hillside down to the street. Currently it is covered with ivy but there are a ton of weeds in the ivy.

Should I just get in there and weed the ivy or could I remove the ivy completely and just put some plants and stuff there.

You can dig it all out... My recommendation if it isn't too steep is to use a roto tiller to really tear out all the ivy...

Just remember, that ivy does also add alot of fill if it is maintained correctly...

I HATE ivy. i think its gross and detracts from the house --- especially when its crawling up it.

A nice mulch circle around some small shrubs would look really nice.

Be careful churning up a hillside, those plants pfevent erosion. Make sure you replace them with something that will keep your yard from washing down the street.

There are some great looking plants that will prevent erosion. Just do some research.

pachysandra (sp?) comes to mind. it's easy to maintain, requires little direct sunlight, and stays alive all year round.
